Guess who's back?! KLow is back!!!

Life is for the living!!!

Grill what? Grill who?

To know me is to love me, 50 thousand shades of Kennedi. The funny thing is I never know which one I am going to be when I wake up each day. Sometimes an event can happen & I flip the script. I can go from one to a thousand real quick. Not always in a bad way but I can go there if I need to. I am getting close to the edge between the personal stuff I am dealing with & being sheltered in place due to COVID-19. I... AM... over it. I miss hanging out & chilling with my friends. I miss our weekly or biweekly restaurant dates. I miss the activities & events I do with my community family. I miss the social part of life. I am a social butterfly & I miss hugging my people. It is not any easier since I live alone. To help my sanity I planned a cookout with a few friends this past weekend. By few I mean five people were invited. I had a great time. It made me remember my college days & the times I used to cook & my friends would come over & e...

How to Help your Friend Living with a Chronic Illness

People living with chronic illnesses battle a lot. Remembering to take their medicines every day, frequent doctor visits and lab work, tiredness and the fatigue that goes along with their illnesses and for some the constant pain they deal with. Until you know what it feels like to be in someone's body and deal with their pain don't try to overlook or shush them when they say they are not feeling well. Living with a chronic illness can also be mentally overwhelming. Being in constant pain can take a strain on a person physical, mental, and sometimes emotional health.   Ask questions. See what you can do to help or try and take their mind off what they are going through. You can't help everyone. It takes some people a while before they adjust to this new way of life.  For people living with chronic illnesses stay active. Staying active doesn't always mean working out. If you volunteer at a school or senior home that's being active. Shutting people out and stayi...

What I’ve learned since my diagnosis

Life is hard. Sometimes you will receive an unexpected blow when you think all is well & right in your world. That doesn’t mean you quit, don’t give the devil the victory. You are an overcomer. On your hard days wake up and push through. Showing up is half the battle, and the more you do this, you will teach yourself that this problem isn’t as bad as you thought. You will get through it just keep the faith. Do whatever you have to do on the legal side of the law to keep your head floating above water. I promise you it will all work out in due season. Dance during the storm and show your problems you have somebody bigger that fights your battles for you. On my worst days, I write and get it all out of my head or I talk to someone I can trust. There are still days when I cry my way through it but I get through it. Find things that help you survive the pain. I didn’t quit & neither can you. Remember I love you!!!

Your Health, Your Priority

Exercise your Rights! Stand up for yourself. You pay your insurance company & your medical professionals, so don’t let them brush off your issues or concerns. You have a right to be a part of the decisions for your health. You have a right to get a second opinion. You have a right to file a complaint against bad services rendered towards you. Don’t let just anyone come into your room, speak gibberish to you & leave out. They have a right to make sure you understand everything they tell you. You have a right to understand your medical issues and concerns before they leave you. If you expect bad news, or you just don’t know what they are saying, take a trusted family member or friend with you to your appointment. Just as if you were in a business to receive a service, your medical professionals are the businesses you service. Even with your insurance companies, you pay them so don’t accept piss poor service. People PLEASE ACCOMPANY YOUR ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBERS TO THEIR APP...

So HAPPY being ME!!!

What the devil meant to destroy me turned into my purpose! In 2016 I went through an experience that I never thought would happen to me...but IT DID! I received a call saying I was HIV positive. After the initial confusion, shock, hurt, disappointment, & anger I flipped that negative energy around & used it for my good. NOTE: I have HIV & not AIDS. HIV is the VIRUS and AIDS is the DISEASE after a person CD4 cell count drops below 200 cells/mm or gets an opportunist infection they can receive an AIDS diagnosis. After going through all of the emotions known to mankind, I birthed KLowInspires, Corp. to inspire & uplift black women. Especially the women living in fear because of how the world treats People Living With HIV (PLWH). We must motivate and empower each other. We carry our spouses, our significant others, our children, our parents, our siblings, our grandparents, etc. but we invest so little into ourselves until it’s too late. After coming to terms with my d...

You aren't meant to be alone

God created Eve to help Adam. We were created to coexist with each other. I never understood why people say they are just going to be alone. God wanted us to procreate and multiply. It's mainly because of the experiences that males or females have been through to make them say that, but deep down I don't believe they truly want to be alone. Yes, we may all have times where we don't want to be bothered but we are meant to love and break bread with one another. You must fix your personal issues and deal with your past before you can give yourself entirely to someone else. If you are already married or in a long-term relationship, be open to fixing problems that arise during your relationship. Deal with that abuse, molestation, or abandonment and this goes for males and females. Yes males y'all have feelings you need to deal with also. We don't expect y'all to carry the world on your shoulders. We are here to help. If you can't give your all to the one you ...

Blend In

It takes a village to raise a child. Nowadays we as black people are in competition with each other too much to help each other out. There isn't much reaching back and bringing up our fellow brothers/sisters and too many don't want people to take their spotlight. Oh, what we could all learn from each other if we just work together. There is strength in numbers and until we realize it, we won't prosper as our ancestors fought for us to. During slavery our people had so little, but they had their faith, songs, and each other. How many of you can truly say you have a solid support system to boost you up or pray with you when times get hard? Every time I've leveled up, I always told the people I was leaving behind if there is a position or stepping stone for you where I am going I will be sure to let you know. I don't mind sharing recruiters or resources I want us all to WIN. This leads me to my point of this blog blended families. Everyone I know with a blended f...

Communication is Key

I'm not very good at communicating my feelings. It has messed me up a time or two in my life. When I go to my therapy sessions all I do is talk and cry, nose running and everything. I don't know if it was the personality of my previous therapist and the warm friendly personality of my current therapist, but they really got me to open up to them. I feel like my current therapist is really trying to help me with my life and the issues that led me to therapy. I'm learning more about myself and how to deal with the negative things life throws my way. Every day is not going to be sunny and I'm learning to live in the moment. Parents you need to learn how to communicate with your children and not just talk at them, listen to what they are saying verbally and physically. In black households you get that " what I say goes, I'm the mama you're the child" so kids tend to hide their feelings inside which can later affect them during the rest of their life. ...

Free Yourself

You will never live your life to the fullest trying to make other people happy. At some point in time you have to stop and and evaluate who you are living for, God already knows everything about you. He created you from head to toe, so while you are on this Earth, make you happy. Through my recent trials and tribulations, I've come to realize that if I don't live for Kennedi I end up miserable and regretting my life. I don't know about you, but I don't want to die with a list of what if's. In 2017, I started making it a point to make me happy first. Nobody has to like my choices or decisions but me. I don't have a husband or kids that they will affect, so I live my life by my rules. Most people that know me know I'm a grandma's girl to the fullest, and for those who know my grandmother know she is a devout Christian. So when I do certain things such as getting my tongue pierced I had a friend ask what will your grandma say? I said she's...

We Can No Longer Be Silent

Almost a year ago I remember being fussed at by an elder in my family for things my other family members were posting on their social media accounts. For one, it stunned me because this elder doesn't even have not one social media account and tells people often they don't want one. People are always telling them what's happening on social media. For two, I had to remind said elder that these people were grown and could post whatever they wanted on their social media accounts because it was their accounts. As I was having a conversation with a friend she stated how she had told her significant other not to post their future kid(s) on social media. I relayed the conversation I had earlier with my elderly family member to her, and she replied they are old school and you know they don't believe in telling people your personal business. This brings me to the point of this blog, and like I told her that's the problem we have now in our society, too many people are s...

Happy Holidays!!!

This is a joyus time of year for it brings family, food, fun , and laughter. So I want to wish you peace, love, and blessings this holiday season. While you are celebrating with your family and eating those big feasts around the table, stop and give thanks because somebody out there doesn't have any family to eat or celebrate with. Someone doesn't have the means to cook a big feast for their family, and while gifts are not the reason for the season some parents can't afford to buy their kids gifts. For those grieving the loss of a loved one, memories are hard to deal with during this season when you are wishing they were still here instead. I went through many emotions trying to decide what to do for Thanksgiving, and I had a busy week leading up to it. I didn't have the energy to cook and I wanted to be around family or friends but then I didn't. My depression was hitting me hard. A few weeks earlier I had planned to eat with my extended cousins and their f...
